and let me know what you think of this song or this method of outreach.

This song was written with my friend a college roommate, Dave Laborde.
Be sure also to hear the other songs we co-wrote, Lead Me To the Rock
and We Come Today. I think this song was written in early 1981,
just shortly before our graduation from college. Dave began the song and I helped finish it.

1. The glory of the crown
Won't preceed this cross I've found
On the road that led me to a hill called Calvary.
Oh, I long to see the throne,
But before I reach my home
I know the bearing of my cross is meant to be...

Chorus:
The cross is not a simple load to carry,
But I will not let the hardship slow me down,
For by the grace of God above
I am called to serve in love,
And the trail of the cross leads to a crown!

2. Let my life's aim ever be
To let the world see Christ in me
As I follow my Redeemer with a cross much like His own.
Then one day I'll lay it down
And replace it with a crown,
And gain eternal rest this world has never known...

(Repeat Chorus; add:)
Yes, by the grace of God above
I am called to serve in love,
And the trail of the cross leads to a crown!
